After AR Rahman’s separation from his wife, Saira Banu, rumors began circulating that the Oscar-winning composer would take a year-long break following their divorce.
Reports suggested that Rahman was planning to step away from his work for a year, but his son, AR Ameen, has now addressed these rumors. Taking to Instagram Stories, Ameen dismissed the reports, sharing a screenshot of the article and labeling it as “Fake News.” He also clarified, writing, “This is false,” putting an end to the speculation regarding Rahman’s break.
In November, AR Rahman made headlines when he announced the end of his 29-year marriage to Saira Banu. The couple, who married on March 12, 1995, would have celebrated their 30th anniversary next year. Following the announcement, their children—Khatija Rahman, Raheema Rahman, and AR Ameen—issued a public request for privacy. Khatija and Raheema posted on Instagram Stories, expressing their desire for the matter to remain private, with Khatija writing, “I would greatly appreciate it if this matter could be treated with the utmost privacy and respect. Thank you for your consideration.” Ameen also shared a message, saying, “We kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this time. Thank you for your understanding.”
A few hours later, AR Rahman shared a poignant message on X (formerly Twitter), reflecting on the separation: “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter.” He also included the hashtag #arrsairaabreakup, which some netizens felt he should have avoided.
