On Sunday, Jay Shah officially took over as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), marking the beginning of his leadership of the global cricket governing body.
In an ICC release, Shah expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am honoured to be starting in the role of ICC Chair and want to thank the ICC Directors and Member Boards for their support and trust in me to undertake this important role.”
Shah emphasized the exciting opportunities ahead for cricket, particularly with the upcoming LA28 Olympic Games. He highlighted the importance of making cricket more inclusive and popular worldwide, while also focusing on the growth of women’s cricket and the continued evolution of various formats of the game.
A former district and state-level cricket administrator in the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), Shah has extensive experience in cricket governance. He has been serving as the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) since 2019 and has also held significant positions, such as the President of the Asian Cricket Council and Chair of the ICC’s Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee.
Shah also took a moment to thank Greg Barclay, the outgoing ICC Chairman, for his leadership over the past four years, acknowledging the milestones achieved under his guidance. At 36, Shah is poised to lead the ICC in expanding the game’s global reach and fostering its evolution on the world stage.
